Resident Culinary Wizards Showcase their Best at Mac and Cheese Fest

The 2017 Mac and Cheese Fest resident cookoff showcased some amazing culinary talent in our community!

All residents are encouraged to participate in this event each year by preparing their best mac and cheese dish in two categories: Traditional and Specialty. For liability concerns, only the pre-selected judging panel tastes the entries – and boy did they have a tough decision to make this year!

In a close race, Dr. Caroline Zuck won the Adult Traditional Mac and Cheese category for the second year in a row with her Caroline’s Old-Fashioned Mac and Cheese. Newcomers to the island, Emily, Will, and Wade Kutchner stunned the judges (in a good way!) with their unique entry in the Adult Specialty Mac and Cheese category: Kutchner’s Truffle Shellboat (pictured top left)  . The Youth Traditional Mac and Cheese winner this year was Madge Giorgio with her Goldfish Mac and Cheese; and the Youth Specialty Mac and Cheese winner was Tristan Zuck with his dish, Tristan’s Tangy Terrific Mexican Mac and Cheese.

More than 250 residents and their guests turned out to taste the creative mac and cheese pairings of local restaurants Blowin’ Smoke and Bow Tie Barbeque Company. Pimento or Gouda, baked or fried…it was hard to decide where to start! Mathnasium of Savannah Midtown joined us to provide some fun and educational kids activities such as life-sized chess and giant Jenga to keep the younger crowd entertained before the movie night portion of the event. After all tummies were full, participants settled into their chairs and blankets to watch Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (2017) under the stars. Thank you to our sponsors ServPro of Savannah and Xfinity for helping to make this event possible.
